1.5-1.6Ω Ceramic Ballast Resistor For Ignition Systems

A ballast resistor is wired in series with the ignition coil to reduce running voltage and current through the coil and contact points. During cranking, many systems bypass the resistor to provide full battery voltage for easier starting, then return to ballast operation once the engine is running.

This 1.5/1.6 Ω style ballast resistor is commonly used on classic vehicles including:
